Recap

Hear those Lions roar!

In a real thriller our Belgian Lions got the upper-hand against Spain to collect their second win of the European Championship and put themselves in an excellent position to qualify for the round of 16.

After their off-day against Montenegro the Lions regrouped and came out today as a strong collective, making the extra pass and finding the open teammates for easy scores as they moved ahead 11-15 after the first quarter. Dario Brizuela then had a strong period and brought Spain ahead 25-17 in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Gillet and Lecomte reacted well and Bleijenbergh got his first minutes of the tournament and knocked down a three, bringing Belgium back to 33-32 at the half.

In the second half our Lions continued their strong collective play with a very efficient Lecomte and halfway the quarter we were up 39-43. Brown and Hernangomez brought Spain back but once again our Lions reacted well and at the end of the third quarter we were up 54-57. In the final quarter the game remained close and with 3 minutes left to play the scoreboard read 73-74. And then an excellent Lecomte and a hard working Bako placed a 0-9 run to offer Belgium the 73-83 win.

Manu Lecomte led the way for Belgium with his 20 pts, 5 rebs & 4 asts. Ismael Bako added 10 pts & 9 rebs, while Pierre-Antoine Gillet recorded 14 pts & 5 rebs. Retin Obasohan also finished in double-figures with his 11 pts.
