Czech Republic beats Belgium (91-86)

Czech Republic beats Belgium (91-86), to end the Eurobasket Qualifiers.

Belgium lost 86-91 to the Czech Republic in their sixth and final qualifying match for Euro basketball 2022 on Monday in the Vilnius bubble in Lithuania.

The Belgian Lions were already assured of their qualification and the first place in the group after their 88-65 success against Denmark on Saturday. Czech Republic was already qualified as host.

In the first quarter Belgium was imprecise in attack and was too lax in defense. It was already 14-24 after 10 minutes. The Lions were unable to turn the tide and were down 40-51 at rest.

Thanks to Retin Obasohan Belgium returned to the floor with better intentions. Belgium was down by 6 when a questionable 5th foul was whistled against Maxime De Zeeuw (65-69 after 30′). In the last ten minutes, the Lions failed to counter the insolent Czech success (55% shooting) and lost 86-91. A defeat which does not prevent Belgium from finishing at the top of its group with a record of four wins and two defeats.

For Belgium, Retin Obasohan recorded 23 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 1 block. From the bench, Andy Van Vliet recorded 12 points 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block, while Manu Lecomte added 12 points and 4 assists. From the bench, Thomas Akyazili showed good things with 9 points and a +/- of 9, the biggest for the Belgian Lions.
