The Belgian Cats pulled off a major upset by beating world runner-up Australia 70-85 (halftime: 41-37) in their debut in the women’s basketball tournament at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
For the first Olympic women’s basketball game in the history of Belgium, Philip Mestdagh’s players hit hard by winning against one of the big favorites for the podium.
Emma Meesseman (32 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists) gave a brilliant performance, well served by Julie Allemand (16 points and 11 assists).
