Kangoeroes defeat ZZ Leiden in first game of the Cross-Border phase

In the first game of the cross-border phase of the BNXT League it’s Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen who comes away with the close win against ZZ Leiden Basketball, 98-93.

Kangoeroes came out swinging in the opening quarter and immediately ran out to a double digit lead before Leiden was able to find their rhythm. Leiden recovered however and fought their way back, never allowing the Kangoeroes out of their sight.In the final quarter things seemed to turn around and Leiden even jumped ahead before some late game heroics by Alston and a couple of three’s by Foerts kept the win on the home-court.

Myles Stephens finished as top-scorer with his 23 pts along with his 5 rebs & 4 asts. Shizz Alston recorded 20 pts, 5 rebs & 5 asts. A.J. Brodeur (12 pts), Jesse Waleson (12 pts) & Jonas Foerts (11 pts) all chipped-in nicely as well for the Kangoeroes.

For Leiden it was Dutch veteran Worthy De Jong who led the way with his 20 pts. Asbjorn Midtgaard (14 pts), Arunas Mikalauskas (13 pts), Luuk Van Bree (13 pts) and Einaras Tubutis (11 pts) all finished in double-figure scoring as well in this high-scoring and thrilling opener of the cross-border phase.
